Free PDF QR Code Generator

Link a menu, brochure or manual that you host. The code opens the file in the phone's browser, with no redirect server in between.

A PDF QR code stores the direct link to a hosted PDF file, so a scan opens the document immediately, with no intermediate landing page and no expiring redirect.

✓ Direct link to your file, no redirect ✓ Opens in the phone's PDF viewer ✓ No sign-up, never expires

A menu the sticker never has to know about

A table sticker points at a PDF on the cafe's own site. When the menu changes, the file is replaced at the same address and the sticker keeps working.

A short address on your own domain keeps the code small: this one is a version 3 symbol at level M, 29 modules across.

How a PDF QR code works

The code holds a link. The file lives wherever you put it.

A PDF QR code is a web address that ends in a file. The generator encodes the link exactly as you paste it and adds https:// if you left it off:

https://example.com/menu.pdf

Nothing is uploaded here and nothing is hosted here. The file has to be reachable at a public address, which usually means your own website, or a cloud folder whose sharing is set to anyone with the link. Open the address in a private browser window before you print: if it asks you to sign in, so will the code.

A 30-character link fits version 2 or 3 at level M and prints well at 20 mm on a table sticker. The phone opens the file in its browser, which renders PDFs inline on both iPhone and Android, with an option to open it in a reader app.

Where a static PDF code is the right tool

Documents that are read on the spot, from things that are printed once.

Menus on tables and windows

A sticker on the table or the door points at the current menu. Update the PDF when prices change and the sticker stays. Most cafes only ever needed this, not a subscription.

Manuals on packaging and equipment

A code on the product or the machine itself opens the manual, the safety sheet or the wiring diagram. Nobody has to find the paper copy or search the model number.

Brochures, programmes and price lists

Estate agents, galleries and trade stands hand out a card with a code instead of a stack of brochures. The visitor gets the full document and the stand runs out of nothing.

Frequently asked questions: PDF QR codes

What people ask before they print one.

No. This generator makes the code; it does not store files. Upload the PDF to your website or a cloud service with public sharing, copy the link, and paste it into the form. That is also why the code never expires: there is no hosting account to lapse.
Yes, if sharing is set so that anyone with the link can view. Test the link in a private window first. Bear in mind that those links are long, so the symbol will be larger than one that points at your own domain.
Yes, as long as the address stays the same. Replace the file at the same path and every printed code opens the new version. Renaming the file or moving it breaks the code.
The browser first. Safari and Chrome both render PDFs inline, and offer a button to open the file in a reader app. You cannot force a particular app from a link.
For a short link, 20 mm on a table sticker or 30 mm on a window is plenty. For a long cloud link, aim for 35 mm or more. The print guide explains how to check the module size for your exact link.
